Unico Holdings in Lake Worth, Florida is recalling almost 200,000 boxes of its ginger-lemon flavored laxative mix sold nationwide. Federal health officials say they could pose health risks.

The Food and Drug Administration ruled last month that laxatives made with sodium phosphate should not be sold over the counter to prepare people for colon tests because the drugs caused kidney problems in a small number of patients.

Those products should be sold only by prescription, the FDA said.

The FDA said Wednesday that Unico has issued a voluntary recall for all such over-the-counter laxatives it made under 13 names, most of them store-brands such as CVS, Walgreens, Medicine Shoppe, American Fare, Good Neighbor and Leader. For a full list of affected products, visit the FDA website.

If you, or someone you know, has suffered kidney problems as a result of using these products, please contact our offices at (866) 735-1102 Ext 515 or visit our web site: http://www.injuryboard.com/firms/Florida/Tallahassee/Smith--Vanture-LLP/
